What Is Beacon Falls?

Beacon Falls
This is a custom made neighborhood for use with The Sims 2 game. It was originally put together in 2006 by myself and eighteen other forum members from TSR (listed below). With 'the team' now pretty much gone from the community, I have been updating this new version through October and November 2011, after having scanned them with Mootilda's HoodChecker program. There have also been a few 'housekeeping' changes made, such as weather proofing the houses and community lots for use with the Seasons EP.
I've rewritten some of the family descriptions and bio's, and I have changed the spelling of Aimee Pembroke's name, to just Amy! The memories Hood Checker found there was something wrong with have all been fixed, and in some cases the order other memories appeared in have been altered so that they make sense, or they might have been changed to appear 'red' (if this was applicable). Two Sim aspiration levels have been changed to reflect their storyline, and there are other 'odd little things' where I wondered "why did I do that?", and these have been changed. Hopefully for the better!

The full version of Beacon Falls contains the main town of Beacon Falls, it's vibrant downtown area, Lustre Point, and the local college, Balise University. As with the EA/Maxis original neighborhoods, Beacon Falls includes families already edited and set up in certain situations, for you to take a look at and decide to play out their dreams, or wreak havoc in their lives! For people with slower connections, lower specification computers, or those not wanting to use the downtown and university provided, there is a cut down version called Beacon Falls Lite. This only includes the main town, and has fewer townies. You can find both downloads in their respective posts, the Lite version has a link to files for the missing Uni and downtown, if you want to add any of the buildings or sims from either of those to the game yourself.
Please note that the Balise and Lustre Point BF'Lite'-Lots+Families files have not been weather proofed, or otherwise updated.
In the links to the right of this page, each neighborhood or subhood will be clearly labelled, as will the installation instructions, add-on lots and extra downloads. New Stories pages have been added to give you an idea of the families, so that you'll know what you're getting!
New for November 2011, some of the downtown houses have been made into proper apartments, please note that many of these will require EP's and SP's up to Mansion and Gardens, and can be found on the Downloads pages.

Beacon Falls 'Full' requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's, as well as the Family Fun Stuff SP. (Or any of the later expansion packs)

Beacon Falls 'Lite' requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's. (Or any of the later expansion packs)
 
Balloth requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's. (Or any of the later expansion packs) This is a business district containing ready made families with their own storylines.

Prometedor requires - University/ NightLife/ Open for Business/ Seasons and Bon Voyage.
You NEED to have Bon Voyage installed. This is an island Bon Voyage vacation destination based on a Spanish/Mexican/Baja Coast theme with its own custom locals and tourists. If you still want Prometedor but have missing earlier EP's, it would be a good idea to check the lots before sending sims on holiday there in order to replace any missing items with other wall coverings, floorings and/or furniture.

Isle St. Croix requires - University/ NightLife/ Open for Business/ Seasons and Bon Voyage.
You NEED to have Bon Voyage installed. This is a mountain Bon Voyage destination, but with no added sims. If you still want Isle St. Croix but have missing earlier EP's, it would be a good idea to check the lots before sending sims on holiday there in order to replace any missing items with other wall coverings, floorings and/or furniture.

Mootilda noted in Balise University, that there had been a few kitchens with no available space for food preparation...these have been checked and fixed! I also have added extra want slots and locks to sims supposing to have attended university, and you will find their diplomas either on their house walls, or in their inventories. I have made a couple of edits to the 'Lite' version so that it better matches the 'Full' version, such as jobs and aspirations. Though I will not promise that both versions are exactly the same, bio and family description wise!
No characters have been added or taken away, none of the neighborhoods have been further played, except for the Fairfields in each version; because the lot had a floating chimney problem, and the game had to be unpaused for two sim minutes to enable Pescado's stuckobjectremover to zap the offending thingamyjigs!

Installing Beacon Falls

Beacon Falls should be thought of as custom content, please Back-Up before adding it to your game. That way, if you have any problems, you will have something to go back to. We have tested Beacon Falls and found no major problems, but there are many differences in people's games and if you feel that we have overlooked something, feel free to let us know.
There are a couple of minor annoyances that you will find listed in the READ ME included with the folder, but nothing that should cause you real problems.

Beacon Falls has been made as Neighbourhood 7 (N007); to check which neighborhood numbers you already have in your game, go to your My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods folder. If N007 already exists, don't worry: if you're happy editing the files, you can use a utility such as Ant Renamer to update all the file names.
If you are unfamiliar with changing the necessary file numbers then I will be happy to renumber them for you. Contact me using the email address at the end of these intructions, and I'll be happy to send you an alternative.

Instructions are the same for the 'Full' and 'Lite' versions of the download
Download and extract the zip file, along with these instructions you'll find a N007 folder. Place the N007 folder into your neighbourhoods folder, if you are using the djsbeaconfalls.package (mentioned a little further down, but only for use with the 'Full' version) then add that to your Download folder and then start up your game.
You should be able to see Beacon Falls in the neighborhood menu.

If it doesn’t appear in the menu, quit the game and try the following: 

• Take out the Beacon Falls N007 folder from the above location and place it on desktop (or somewhere else that you consider safe).

NOTE: The folder has to be completely outside any of the game folders.

• Start up your game and use the 'create a new neighbourhood' button to make some dummy hoods; these are placeholders, and will be deleted after you have everything working. You will need to check which number 'hoods you already have and make absolutely sure that you don't have an N007 folder in your game.
• Go on to make enough dummy 'hoods, up to and including N007.
• Now, quit the game.
• Go into your My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods folder - there you will see several folders with numers from N001, N002 etc, up to N007.
• You must delete the newly created N007 you see there, and replace it with the Beacon Falls N007 folder from your desktop (or wherever else you put it).

DO NOT OVERWRITE one N007 folder with another or you will corrupt the neighborhood.

• Go back into the game, scroll through the neighborhood selection menu and Beacon Falls should now be available.
• Once you know it is working, you can delete the dummy hoods.

The djsbeaconfalls file:

There is a fuller and more detailed description regarding this hack that can be found in the folder containing the djsbeaconfallsbonus.package.
In short:
The hack was made by jfade, who was able to program things to happen to some of the families; things which should make their storylines a little better or worse, in a
similar way to that EA/Maxis used to introduce some of the storylines when making Pleasantview/Veronaville/Strangetown etc. It was an idea jfade suggested, and which
the creators of the families invloved thought would add to the gameplay. In some cases there won't be anything 'bigger' planned than a sim walk-by.
It is completely your choice whether you want to use this hack. It will not harm your game: the effects have been coded only to work with the specific families/sims involved
and it cannot affect your other neighborhoods at all. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to; Beacon Falls will work normally without it. It was created as way of kick starting some of the fun in Beacon Falls!
If you want to use it, add the djsbeaconfallsbonus.package file to your downloads folder BEFORE playing Beacon Falls. requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's. These are all of the families you will find living in the main town of Beacon Falls.

Fairfield by venusdemilo
Michael Fairfield married his college sweetheart Marjorie, they live in her family mansion with their precocious daughter, Morgan. Marjorie loves social gatherings and parties, and understands that having the right connections is vital to Michael's hopes and desires. Michael's aim is to be rich and powerful, he wants to build his empire in Beacon Falls, and Marjorie is eager to help to heighten his profile whenever she can. It's up to you to decide whether his dreams become a reality, or will they come crashing down, crumbling at their foundation...

Jon is recently divorced from his wife Megan, and lives with fiance Katie Ricard, his teen son Eric and twin daughters Jessie and Jolie. Katie had known Jon and Megan since their days together at college; Megan hadn't thought twice when 'friend' Katie came knocking, saying that she needed help and shelter and took her in immediately.
Katie might claim the attraction felt between herself and Jon was so strong, that the resulting affair was inevitable. Jon would probably lift an eyebrow, and say that he wasn't quite sure, "it just happened". The children would look at each other, and try to explain that one minute everything seemed normal, and the next their mother started acting oddly, and that Katie "had to keep sorting things out" for her. They were left reeling by the sudden family break up, when after a huge fight, Megan walked out.
Megan's side of things will be told later, in her own story. But what other motives does Katie have?
With her waiting, and eager to for Jon to make a commitment, their future is yours to decide.

To Mekala, the choice was clear; leaving her husband and taking their toddler daughter Carmina with her was the only option she could take. A business deal which Tamal made had gone very, very wrong, then to her amazement he promised a betrothal between Carmina and a local mafia member's son to pay off the debt! Mekala felt pushed to protect her daughter; she isn't proud of the life she has been forced to live whilst in hiding, but is tired of being on the run. She is fearful of Tamal, and worried at what he might try to do if he finds them.

Tamal remains an angry man, because with Mekala going against him, all he had and worked is now lost, and he claims their lives are now at risk from those out to take their revenge...

Hugh and Valerie Pembroke's eldest son Lloyd died in a fishing accident, during a storm at sea. With the resulting loss of their vessel, fisherman Hugh is having to accept retirement, but will anything he moves onto now ever be quite as fulfilling? Valerie has opened a florist shop and is running it from their home: but as a strong minded woman, well known for her feelings against the people from the trailer park at the back of their house, or other 'newcomers' moving in; will she be able to hold her tongue, and show politeness towards the passing trade she will now have to rely on?
Teen son Eron is in despair, feeling ignored and misunderstood. He isn't dealing well with the emotions that losing his brother is bringing out, and he sits sad and lonely in his room, hating the world. Hugh and Valerie have often worried that their middle son Jared is an unfocused time waster, without a clear thought in his head; always messing around, never settling down or getting a stable job. But are they right? The whole family have changed in some way since Lloyd's death, and there seem to be a few things lately that Jared might be feeling quite serious about...

Lloyd's widow Amy lives in what was meant to be their new home with their two young daughters. She finds Valerie's interference to be annoying, making her even more unhappy as she copes with her loss. She understands that Valerie misses Lloyd desperately, after all he had been their "golden boy"; Amy can see that her mother-in-law wants something to keep her occupied, she means well, but there are some things Amy needs to decide on her own.

Vincent Wade lives on a clifftop overlooking the sea, shut off from the town below. Unable to put up with the isolation, and brought down by her husband's dark moods, his wife walked out and left some time before. Their son, Mack, also went away after becoming mixed up with 'the wrong crowd'; only returning to drop off his toddler son, Vincent's grandson Nathan.
Now a teen, Nathan has only just been sent to school since social services threatened to remove him from Vincent's care if he continued his absence. He is shy and withdrawn because all he has even known is his grandfather's madness, and this lonely secluded life.

Ianthe is a powerful man in politics, and lives with his wife Artemis, teen daughter Kali and toddler son Karan. He is manipulative, and has archaic ideas about what his wife sould or shouldn't do, and would prefer it if she stayed in taking care of his every need. Artemis is shy, she has ambitions, but doesn't quite have the confidence to follow them through.
So, is Ianthe's affair with the maid for real, 'just because he can'; or as he says, a ploy, or set up, which should force Artemis out of her shell?

James Winchester has an enflated ego, and appearances are very important to him. He lives with his patient and understanding wife Joann, who takes the all of the differing personalities of her household into account, and tries hard to keep things balanced! Their stroppy teenage daughter Maxine seems only interested in herself, and in making more friends. Their teenage son Ronald, prefers to keep his distance and likes being the black sheep of the family. Their youngest daughter Dorothy is a drama queen, with some interesting thoughts on how to get what she wants in life!
Also living with them is Joann's sister, 'the mooch' Priscilla, who thinks James is a pushover. James, in return hates giving her house space, and threatens to put his foot down the next time he catches another one of her lovers in HIS house!

Judith's career is very important to her, she has moved to Beacon Falls to enhance her opportunities. Her husband Frank is in the police, and is fed up with daughter Andrea getting into trouble, and of him having to bail her out and cover her tracks! Judith is so wrapped up in work that she has let a lot of things slide, including personal relationships. Frank is tired of being taken for granted, and is becoming increasingly close to neighbor Patricia Douglas. Will they find comfort in each others arms?

Shawn Douglas is a hard working Doctor, and sees providing for his family as his main priority. His wife Patricia always wanted a good husband, children and a nice home, but sees Shawn spending more and more time at work, chasing the next promotion, and she is starting to feel neglected. Who will she turn to for support and acknowledgement? She finds bringing up their daughters Penelope and Polly, not quite to be the picture of 'happy families' that she'd had in mind. With his wife starting to nag and complain, will Shawn have to give up his own dream to make her happy?

Coming out of a messy divorce, Patrick has just gained custody of his young daughter Reilly and wants to make a fresh start in Beacon Falls.

Toni Lynwood enjoys having a good time, and along with teen daughters Dakota, Montana and Nevada, and her young son Arizona, they have moved to the trailer park in Beacon Falls. With no rules or real guidance, the girls are doing badly at school and are wild and out of control. Of the three, Dakota is the eldest and harbors the most anger towards her mother; she goads her sisters into all kinds of mischeif. Dakota has been arrested multiple times for shoplifting and sneaking out, and she loves to party. A string of boyfirends hasn't stopped montana's wild ways,; they've only just begun! And all fun-loving Nevada cares for is having a good time. Is Arizona headed the same way, or is there still hope? Will anyone they meet her in Beacon Falls have a more positive impact on their lives?

Dirk Monoson finds it hard to keep a job; when he has one, the wages are low and he tends to work away from home a lot. His wife Lo seems to live in her own world, outwardly self centered and only taking care of her own interests. Their teen daughter Daphne feels neglected, she takes care of toddler Lilith the best that she can, but she is struggling to cope.

Madison Venn lives with her teenage daughter Loraine; she has recently adopted Viktorya, a teen with an unsettled childhood who has been in and out of childrens homes. But will Loraine be as accepting of the situation, is this the home Viktorya needs?

Stella landed in Beacon Falls and soon met Johnny Beem. They married, and have a teen son Orion, daughter Saturn and their toddler son Venus. However Stella has never been comfortable here, she has never settled and hates her neighbors. Apart from her family, all of her energies go into planning for that spaceship to return, in the hopes that it will whisk them all away again. But can that ever happen, and will the result be the one she expects?

Ida is a widow and lives alone, her son and his family live nearby but she would like to find a friend, as well as an interest or something else that will occupy more of her time.

Her son Steven and his wife Catherine appear to be a happy couple, they live accross town with their two daughters, Ellie and Hillary. Steven is laid back, but is that a good thing? Catherine doesn't really seem happy, and seeks attention elsewhere. The girls are very different and don't get along well; Ellie is popular and has many friends, she resents Hillary whom she sees as nerdy and boring.

He met and married Lynz quite quickly, and along with Lynz's young daughter Trisha, he is now coming to realise the responsibility he has taken on, and the pressures that family life are about to bring. Will he make further hasty decisions, or can they work things through?

Tamal Singh is an angry, broken man. After a business deal he made went wrong, he was forced to betroth his toddler daughter to a local mafia member's son. His wife Mekala was outraged by this, and ran away, taking little Carmina with her. Her betrayal cost him their business, and has put a price on their heads. Losing everything he was once proud of and held dear has left a hollowness in Tamal that he fears. He believes he is getting close to finding his missing family; the hunt is on, but he no longer knows what he should, or will do when he finally tracks them down.

How will Megan deal with the woman who was once a friend, but is now her biggest enemy; can she convince her family of Katie's true ways, will she find the strength she needs to win them back?

If you have Apartment Life and Mansion and Gardens, you might want to move them out individually from their present version of the lot, and move them into the updated Stanford Building, which is an actual apartment and is available on the Updated and grouped Lots and Apartments page.
Note: If you do this, please send Yuri Sam's husbands urn to the graveyard first, or his character file might 'get lost' during the reshuffle!

Anath Natalee Stanford is heiress to her fathers fortune; she is a self centered snob, but living on her own has made her realise that she has to get her act together.
Zaho Yuri Sam was recently widowed when shortly after moving in, her husband tragically died in a fire. She is mother to Lim Jiang and friends with Anath Natalee. Lim Jiang misses her daddy but quite likes playing in the toilet...
Harrison Livia Cicely and Farrell Gilbert have been married for a long time, Farrell Gilbert has wanted children forever and found himself depressed when they were unable to have any of their own. They have recently adopted Mattie Connor, but will bringing up a child be all they have dreamed of, coming at this stage of their lives?
And Mattie, new to his surroundings is he happy to be in a 'better home'?
CarterShawn Stephan Carter has been trying to catch Anath Natalee Stanford's eye since moving in, but if she ever notices, is he the kind of guy she'd be interested in?

A messy divorce and years of humiliation have left Lauren with a little more courage, and the determination to 'get herself straight'. along with her teen daughter Ionie, they have moved to Lustre Point. Sadly Lauren is unable to afford any of the nicer houses and has ended up in Dismal Lane.

Ionie is shy, she hates that the girls at school call her names and look down on her because of where she lives, but she knows they will have to remain here for the time being. She dreams of a secluded tower, perched high on a hill overlooking the sea...

Willow owes her fine level of living to her calculating mind and wily manipulation ploys. In her youth, she quickly discovered she had a natural finesse for deceiving people and getting what she wanted. Unable to afford a college education, she took a maid position after graduating high school, and deftly swindled her employer out of a significant sum of money. since then, Willow has continued her "love 'em and leave 'em" scheme, and has managed to line her pockets with cash, leaving a trail of broken hearts behind her!

Finally on his own, Rob Waynes was living his dream in the town of Lustre Point. Then disaster struck, and flames engulfed his childhood home, destroying it and killing his mother. His father, David, has had to move in 'temporarily'. The catch is that Rob finally revealed his sexuality, and his father is very conservative. Will Rob's new relationships destroy the one he has with his father?

John and Jane Smith live in Lustre Point with their toddler daughter Jackie, and Jane's sister Juliana Doe. They asked her to move in to help take care of Jackie, but with a busy town full of opportunity, can she be depended on, and will Juliana stick around?

Jamie moore lost his wife when twins Liam and Thomas were born. His teenage son Jerry resents the boys for taking his mother away, this has made him difficult to get through to. Will Jamie be able to talk his son through this, heal the hurt and close the rift threatening the boys future relationship?

Alicia Denson and Eve Symonds mothers had been friends; growing up together, they dreamed of a life far away in a place they could have fun. They have moved to Lustre Point, and are keen to set up a hairdressing business. Will people like what they do, and appreciate their styling ideas?

All of these Sims live in buildings that are supposed to be, but are not actual apartments. If you have Apartment Life and Mansion and Gardens, their houses are all available as proper apartments on the Updated and grouped Lots and Apartments page.
At the top of the picture, on the left hand side are Jackie Jenkins and Bek Hawkes. At the top right hand side is Jesse Gee, and in the bottom right hand side are brothers Rick and Wallace Mazario.
Each of these have been made by ferretlover7lana.

In the bottom left hand side is Timothy Borak, who he was made by mistwind.

Balise University Y/A's

At the top left, you have Carmel Fontaine and Grant Chase, made by mselah. Next to them on the right are Ruby and Scarlet Vermelho, who are sisters just beginning their university studies. They have come through a personal tragedy, but each are dealing with it differently: one is throwing herself into study, and the other just wants to go wild and enjoy herself!
Lastly, at the bottom of the picture you have Sims from the Sam Pri lot:
Westley Tyler Price has been shipped off to college by his parents, and is making his way through quite well so far. Can he keep his relationship with Buffy healthy, while still maintaining his dream?
Marissa Kristi Samson is a down to earth kind of gal, just wanting to be accepted. But people seem to pass her by and head straight for her sister Buffy; and with the flick of her hair, Buffy seems to have them wrapped around her finger! Can you help Marissa find happiness and acceptance?
Buffy Chantel Samson is a social butterfly, good looking and extremely outgoing, with all of her friends she has anything an adolescent could ever want! But why does her sister bring her down? They've always been close, but now that Buffy is so popular, it seems to be taking a toll on her relationship with Marissa...
